Odisha Tops The List In ‘Life Below Water’ In SDG India Index

Odisha has also topped in yet another goal -Goal 14 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India Index-Life below Water with a composite score of 82, Odisha tops the list of SDG-14 Index Score of Coastal States followed by Andhra Pradesh which has a composite score of 79.

According to the report, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh belong to the category of Front Runner with a score range between 65 and 99 while Tamil Nadu fell into the Aspirant category score less than 50. The remaining 6 coastal states are in the Performer category.

To measure India’s performance towards the Goal of Life below Water, five national-level indicators have been identified, which capture four out of the ten SDG targets for 2030 outlined under this Goal.

The third edition of the SDG India Index and Dashboard 2020–21 was released by NITI Aayog. The index has become the primary tool for monitoring progress on the SDGs in the country and has simultaneously fostered competition among the States and Union Territories.

NITI Aayog has the twin mandate to oversee the adoption and monitoring of the SDGs in the country, and also promote competitive and cooperative federalism among States and UTs.

The SDG India Index 2020–21, developed in collaboration with the United Nations in India, tracks the progress of all States and UTs on 115 indicators that are aligned to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI’s) National Indicator Framework (NIF).
