The Archaeological Survey of India’s (ASI) groundbreaking “Adopt a Heritage 2.0” campaign will be launched on September 4, 2023, at the IGNCA’s Samvet Auditorium in New Delhi. The project aims to safeguard India’s rich cultural heritage by involving commercial stakeholders in improving the facilities of over 3,600 monuments spread across the country. These monuments not only showcase India’s rich cultural past, but they also significantly enhance the country’s economy.
ASI is approaching business partners as part of the “Adopt a Heritage 2.0” project to use their corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to improve the amenities at these historic sites. This updated version of the 2017 scheme highlights the amenities required for certain monuments as specified by the AMASR Act 1958.Interested parties can apply to adopt a monument or specific facilities using a specialised web portal at www.indianheritage.gov.in. The webpage provides detailed information on the monuments that are up for adoption, including a gap analysis and an estimated cost.
In-depth research, conversations with numerous parties, and assessments of the chances for economic and developmental progress at each monument are all part of the stakeholder selection process. The chosen stakeholders will be responsible for the construction, provision, and maintenance of amenities in the areas of hygiene, accessibility, safety, and knowledge. Their participation will establish them as respectable organisations that value cultural heritage. The initial appointment period will be five years, with the possibility of extension.
