The Delhi Police has caught a group of online con artists with the arrest of six people, a senior official announced on Monday. The group had defrauded over 1,900 people nationwide under the guise of loans using the app “Cash Advance.” According to the official, the gang was extorting and blackmailing the general public under the guise of offering rapid loans by unlawfully accessing their cellphone data using an app. The official further said that the gang’s alleged transactions totaling Rs 350 crore and questionable cryptocurrency exchange had been documented.
The gang members were named as Mustajab Gulam Mohammed Naviwala, 32, Anisbhai Ashrafbhai Vinchhi, 51, both of Surat, Gujarat; Gokul Biswas, 53; Nitin, 24, of Mahipalpur; Ashok, 36; and Balwant, 39; all residents of Sultanpuri, West Bengal; and Nitin, 24, of Mahipalpur, Delhi. The officials said that they had also blocked 60 lakhs in many bank accounts and retrieved seven mobile phones and one laptop.
According to the police, Model Town resident Jai Goyal said that certain people were extorting and blackmailing the general public under the guise of offering rapid loans by unlawfully accessing their smartphone data using the lending app Cash Advance. In addition, 102 complaints from the Delhi region and 1,977 from the entire country of India were discovered to have been filed against the same app, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police for Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations (IFSO), Prashant Gautam.
The DCP said that a team led by sub-inspector Sonam Joshi and comprised of ASIs Neeraj Pandey and Surender Rathi, SIs Karamvir and Harjeet, and SIs Karamvir and Harjeet among others was formed to investigate the matter and find the perpetrators. The police squad gathered pertinent information about the accounts, purported firms, and proprietorships during the inquiry from several banks and ROC. The locations of Delhi, Surat, Kerala, and Kolkata were discovered to be the addresses of registered businesses. The directors of these suspected firms, however, could not be located, he claimed. Because of this, the police team performed in-depth research and a thorough field investigation before ultimately being able to locate the accused at several locations.
