The Orissa High Court rejected the petitions of liquor vendors on the state government’s allotment process of liquor shops.
According to the reports, a bench of the High Court while rejecting the petitions stated that it did not want to interfere in policy matters of the state government. The Odisha government has formed a new norm where the allotments of liquor shops will be made through lottery instead of auctions.
Later, a petition was filed by 20 vendors who challenged the new norms set by the government in the allotment of liquor shops. In order to participate in the lottery process, the government asked the applicants to deposit a non-refundable amount of Rs 1,00,000.
