Pahalgam Terror Attack: Army Chief to Visit Srinagar; MEA Briefs G20 Envoys

In the aftermath of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, the Government of India has stepped up diplomatic outreach and national security measures. On Thursday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri briefed ambassadors and senior diplomats from G20 nations, including China and Canada, on the evolving situation and India’s response.

The high-level meeting, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, was held at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi’s South Block. Diplomats from key nations such as Germany, Japan, Poland, the United Kingdom, Russia, the United States, the European Union, Italy, Qatar, and France were also present. According to official sources, Misri provided a detailed update on the circumstances of the Pahalgam attack, its impact, and the steps being taken to address cross-border terrorism.

This diplomatic briefing is part of India’s broader international engagement strategy following the attack, which the government has strongly condemned. As part of the immediate measures, India has decided to suspend all visa services to Pakistani nationals.

“In continuation of the decisions made by the Cabinet Committee on Security in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Government of India has decided to suspend visa services to Pakistani nationals with immediate effect,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in an official statement.

The suspension of visas signals a stern message to Pakistan, which India has long accused of sheltering and supporting terror outfits targeting Indian civilians and security forces. The diplomatic moves and internal security reviews underline the seriousness with which India is addressing the incident, as global attention focuses on the Kashmir Valley once again amidst rising security concerns.
