Prime Minister Narendra Modi supported the new farm laws and stated that he is all ready with folded hands to discuss the farmers’ issues.
On Friday, he talked about the ongoing protest of the farmers against the newly Farm Bills. He said that any talk about the new laws doing away with the Minimum Support Price for crops is the biggest falsehood ever. Even the opposition parties are against the new regulations, and they are amazed as he would get the credit, to which Modi replied that he did not want any credit, but people shouldn’t misrepresent the farmers.
Through video platform, Modi said that the Government is willing to hold talks with the farmers – “Even after all these Government’s efforts if anyone has any doubt over the farm laws, we, with folded hands and heads bowed, are ready for talks. The new agriculture laws have not been composed overnight but political parties, agriculture experts and progressive farmers have demanded it for a long time.”
PM Modi said that the Agricultural reformations were discussed for over two decades by every government. It is not something that is decided overnight, and that the opposition parties are entirely misleading the farmers. “These laws were not brought in overnight. In past 22 years, every Government, state has discussed these in detail. Farmer groups, agricultural experts, economists, scientists and progressive farmers, have called for reforms. Parties opposing these laws today promised these reforms in their manifestos.”

He further added, “These parties are pained today. They are asking themselves how Modi could achieve what they couldn’t do in all this time. They are worried Modi will get credit. My reply to them is – you keep the credit. I don’t want credit. I only want farmers’ lives to improve. Stop misleading farmers.”
He acclaimed that the new laws initiated by his Government are for the benefit and good of the farmers. He accused the people who have no idea regarding the new laws and stated that he wants to expose those who have no concern for the farmers. He also said that he intends to forewarn all those who are being misled and then instigated in the name of these farm laws.

The farmers have refused to call off their protests until the Government withdraws it. The farmers fear that because these new laws can take away their guaranteed minimum earnings and later leave them to be exploited by the corporates. But the Government is ensuring that the laws will allow the farmers to sell their products anywhere in the country.
