In order to increase the population of Royal Bengal Tigers in Similipal Tiger Reserve of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, a big cat has been brought from Maharashtra. According to sources in Forest department, the tiger was translocated after approval from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). Earlier Odisha government had written to the NTCA for translocation of the tiger from Maharashtra.
A group of authorities, comprising the director and assistant director of Similipal Tiger Reserve, veterinary specialists, and a fast reaction team, traveled to Maharashtra last week after receiving consent. There, they went to the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve and talked about the formalities of the relocation. For a few days, the tiger from Tadoba Reserve would be housed in a dedicated enclosure, and its capacity to adjust to the local environment would be monitored. According to the reports, the large cat will then be released in Similipal’s central region.
