The most awaited Coronavirus first consignment of Covishield vaccine dispatched from Serum Institute of India in Pune will reach Odisha.
As per the Health and Family Welfare department, the vaccine will be flown to Odisha in a special SpiceJet flight and land at Biju Patnaik International Airport at around 4.20 PM on Tuesday. The first consignment containing vials of the Covishield vaccine dispatched from Serum Institute of India situated in Pune will be reaching Odisha for the vaccination process.
For the delivery to all States and UTs, the first batch of Covishield vaccines left Pune-based Serum Institute of India, four days ahead of the national launch of the vaccination drive across the country.

As per the reports, around three temperature-controlled trucks were taken out of the Serum Institute gates and later left for Pune Airport. The trucks carried 478 boxes of the vaccines, each box weighing 32 kg. In eight commercial flights which include two cargo flights, the vaccine is being flown from Pune.
The report further stated that the first cargo flight will cover Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, and Vijayawada. The second cargo flight will be reaching Kolkata and Guwahati. Trucks belonging to Kool ex Cold Chain Ltd are being used to carry the vaccine stocks from Serum institute.

As of now, Odisha will be receiving over 4 Lakh doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for the roll-out of the mass vaccination in the first phase on 16th January. Apart from this, the state has also received a letter from the Centre regarding the despatch of another 20000 doses of Covaxin. In fact, all the vaccines will be kept as per the protocols at the State Vaccine Store in Bhubaneswar after the consignment reaches Odisha.
