Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Energy and Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, presented the State’s complete energy transition strategy at the Power Minister’s Conference in Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The Energy Department’s Principal Secretary joined him.
During his speech, Singh Deo emphasized Odisha’s leadership in power sector reforms and its dedication to furthering India’s green energy strategy via creative thinking and updated infrastructure. He pointed out that all four of the state’s Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) have seen an improvement in operational and financial performance as a result of Odisha’s successful adoption of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models in electricity distribution.
According to Ministry of Power evaluations, three of these DISCOMs—TPCODL, TPWODL, and TPNODL—are currently in the top 10 in the nation, establishing Odisha as a national leader in power sector reform, he said. Singh Deo also gave an update on the State’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) plan, which is presently being reviewed by the Indian government. The RDSS is a Rs 3,069 crore project intended to construct disaster-resilient infrastructure.
The Deputy Chief Minister spoke on solar power initiatives and consumer rights, highlighting Odisha’s efforts under the PM-Suryaghar plan to lower the cost of rooftop solar installations for homes and its proactive adoption of the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020. Odisha is thinking about offering state funding to expand the program’s reach.
