The MCD offers ‘cradle-to-grave’ service to Delhi residents. It covers everything from birth registration to elementary education, medical treatment to business licences, cleanliness to home-building permits. The Aam Aadmi Party has often emphasised throughout its eight years in power in Delhi that it is not accountable for a wide range of civic concerns that fall outside the purview of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The BJP humiliated the AAP in the 2017 municipal elections, but it still managed to take control of the civic body last week. As a result, there are a lot of expectations placed on the AAP going forward. The MCD offers ‘cradle-to-grave’ service to Delhi residents. The Delhi Metropolitan Council was in charge of running Delhi from 1966 to 1990. There was no state administration. The authority of the civic body was altered once Delhi was given a state government with constrained powers. Now, in addition to the police, which are under the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the land-owning Delhi Development Authority, there were two more authorities in Delhi.

Delhi has never appeared to be so filthy. Even in Delhi’s affluent neighbourhoods, there are rubbish mounds to be seen. Delhi has lost out in the conflict between the AAP and the BJP. The first thing Delhi needs, according to Safdarjung Enclave resident and active RWA member Karen Madan, is a complete cleaning.”People’s top concern for the city is cleanliness and waste disposal. It will be a top priority for us. More sanitation personnel are required. To establish accountability, it is necessary to assign them specific areas of responsibility. Overall, managing solid waste must be process-oriented. The method must include the collection of separate rubbish from doorsteps, according to Saurabh Bharadwaj of the AAP.

Durgesh Pathak, the party’s head, also highlighted the need of sanitation personnel. “We need to encourage the karamcharis and promptly compensate them. We must look after those who look after Delhi. The same was done with schools. The teaching-learning process improved once we inspired teachers, he claimed.Providing people with smoother services is the second item on the priority list. There are already a number of services available online, such birth and death registration, and this network will continue to grow.At MCD workplaces, employees must endure humiliation in order to complete any task. People have begun to believe that using bribes is necessary in order to complete tasks.
