The government of Rajasthan requested that the CBI be asked to question Tunda’s acquittal in the cases involving the serial train bombings.A TADA court had dismissed Abdul Karim Tunda’s 1993 serial bomb blast case due to insufficient evidence, and the CBI announced that it will appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court once it had reviewed the TADA court’s ruling. Twelve people have been found guilty in this case thus far, according to the CBI.
Irfan and Hamir-Ul-Uddin were among those found guilty on Thursday when Judge Mahaveer Prasad Gupta of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court sentenced them to life in jail; however, Tunda was found not guilty. In the case, the CBI filed charge sheets against 21 defendants, 15 of whom had received life sentences from a TADA court in Ajmer on February 28, 2004, 20 years prior. Ten of these offenders had their sentences affirmed by the Supreme Court.
On the first anniversary of the 1992 demolition of the Babri Masjid, the CBI accused Tunda of being responsible for the explosions on four trains.
