Ola, Uber, and Rapido received letters from the Karnataka Transport Department ordering them to stop providing vehicle services immediately and directing them to respond to consumer concerns about excessive fees. The department has threatened legal action against the app-based taxi aggregators if the explanation is not provided or the directive is not followed.
T.H.M. Kumar, Commissioner of the State Transport Department, reportedly remarked that they got a lot of complaints during the last two to three days. Particularly, cab aggregators were the target of criticism since they double-charged for vehicle services. Notices have been sent to the taxi aggregators, and they have three days to respond. He stated, “A decision will be made after we received the response.
The official waiting fee has been set at Rs 5 for every 5 minutes, with the minimum vehicle cost being Rs 30. But a lot of people have complained about how cab aggregators are purportedly demanding a Rs 100 minimum rate. While this is going on, the Bengaluru Autorickshaw Drivers Union (ARDU) intends to release the “Namma Yatri App” by November 1 to take on Ola, Uber, Rapido, and other app-based service providers. The software will be released in collaboration with the Beck Foundation, which is funded by businessman Nandan Nilekani.
The president of ARDU, D. Rudraswamy, said that when app-based service providers charge Rs 100, they only deliver Rs 60 to the drivers and retain the rest Rs 40 as commission.
