A new statistic reveals that, despite India’s rapid economic growth and post-covid decline in unemployment, a staggering 42% of graduates under the age of 25 still do not have a job, compared to those with higher educational levels for the same age group.
“For all educational levels, the unemployment rate is lower now than it was before COVID. According to the research, “STATE OF WORKING INDIA 2023: Social Identities and Labour Market Outcomes,” published by the Centre for Sustainable Employment of Azim Premji University, it still exceeds 15% for graduates and, more concerningly, it reaches a staggering 42% for graduates under 25.
The gender pay gap has decreased over time, but the research claims that it is still substantially greater than the gap between other castes and religions. This inequality is most pronounced among SC/ST women employees and self-employed people. According to the research, there is less caste-based discrimination and gender inequality across all job markets, and upward mobility has grown.According to the report, as of the years 2021–2022, the number of SC/ST workers in the waste-cleaning business or the leather industry has decreased but not entirely disappeared. The representation index for the leather industry fell significantly to 1.4 in 2021. According to the research, “over-representation of SCs in waste management and sewerage reduced to 1.6 times in 2011 before marginally growing again.
