Union Minister Urged Odisha CM To Take Action Against Illegal Cattle Trafficking In Odisha

For the last few months, there has been a major breakthrough against illegal cattle trafficking where police have rescued many cattle and there have been many reports regarding the smuggling of the cattle. Now senior BJP leader and Union minister Pratap Sarangi requested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to take imminent steps to prevent illegal cattle trafficking in Odisha.

As per the news report, Pratap Sarangi apparently attracts the spotlight on the tragic accident on NH-60 in Basta of Balasore district to the Odisha Chief Minister. In the Basta incident, around 40 cows and three men lost their lives after a truck illegally transporting the cattle upturned.

Sarangi stated that the illegal trafficking of cattle has now become very common and we are witnessing such incidents repeatedly in Odisha. These incidents occurred due to the lack of proper law enforcement and alleged implicit assistance from agencies that are supposed to administer the provisions of Orissa Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act 1960, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, the Transport of Animals Rules 1978, and other appropriate rules.

He also talked about the Orissa Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act 1960 which was one of the important legislation in India and was made under the administration of late Biju Patnaik. To which Sarangi requested the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to order an absolute investigation and also induct commendable punishment to the accused.

Union Minister also urged CM Patnaik to direct the Director-General of Police (DGP) and the district administrations to reinforce surveillance and patrolling and put in place a strong ground-level intelligence gathering system to stop the cases of illegal trafficking of cattle in Odisha.
