The Bhartiya Janata Party government headed by Shri Yogi Adityanath has made a historic announcement for their state yesterday. Yogi government has announced that no working women can be forced to work after 7 pm in their offices. Moreover, working women also cannot be forced to work before 6 AM.
In a notification issued by the Yogi Adityanath government, no female worker’s employment can be terminated if she refuses to work such hours. Factories in Uttar Pradesh also have to ensure that at least four women must be working on the premises together between 7 pm and 6 am.
Further, appropriate steps have to be taken to prevent sexual harassment, while washrooms, drinking facilities, and changing rooms have to be provided. According to the National Family Health Survey, the number of working males in the 15-49 age group in India is three times that of females.
UP (17%) is among the three states with the lowest working women. Bihar is at the bottom with 14% while Assam has 18%.
