The Coronavirus pandemic which started last year created a devastating situation across the world and with the vaccine people are expecting the end of this deadliest virus to put an end. But World Health Organization (WHO) recently stated that it is unrealistic to expect that the COVID-19 situation will be over by the end of 2021.
According to Xinhua news agency report, Dr. Michael Ryan, executive director of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Program believes that it will be very premature and unrealistic to think and assume that the Coronavirus pandemic will be finished by the end of the year.
He further said that what we all can do if we all are smart enough is to first finish with the hospitalizations, the deaths, and the tragedy associated with this pandemic. The people associated with the vaccine are facing a huge challenge in rolling out the COVID-19 vaccines equitably and impartially to those who most need them around the world. But he also said that right now we all are in a better position than we all were before but in the future, nothing is guaranteed.
Dr. Soumya Swaminathan who is the chief scientist of the World Health Organization (WHO) said that the goal of COVAX which is a program led by the World Health Organization (WHO) is to bring to an end to this deadliest phase of the pandemic by the end of 2021. COVAX is a program led by the WHO, Gavi (the Vaccine Alliance), and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) aiming at distributing Covid-19 vaccines around the world.
According to information released by the WHO on 26the February, 256 candidate vaccines are still being developed worldwide out of which 74 of them in clinical trials in Germany, China, Russia, Britain, and the United States. The world is struggling to contain the pandemic, but the vaccination is underway in some countries with the already-authorized coronavirus vaccines.
