According to Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): The Gender Snapshot 2022, it may take up to 300 years to achieve complete gender equality at the current rate of development.Gender inequities are being further exacerbated by global concerns like the COVID-19 epidemic and its aftermath, violent conflict, climate change, and the reaction against women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights.
The new research, released today by UN Women and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), emphasises that SDG 5 – achieving gender equality – will not be achieved by 2030 at the current rate of progress. According to the analysis, it will take up to 286 years to solve legal protection gaps and repeal discriminatory legislation, 140 years to achieve equal participation for women in corporate leadership and power positions, and at least 40 years to accomplish equal representation in national legislatures.
By 2030, there must be a 17-fold increase in progress from the previous ten years if child marriage is to be completely eradicated, with girls from the poorest rural households and those living in conflict zones anticipated to suffer the most. The research also shows a worrying reversal in the trajectory of poverty reduction, which is expected to be made worse by rising prices. In comparison to 368 million men and boys, 383 million women and girls will be living in extreme poverty by the end of 2022 (on less than $1.90 a day).”In terms of earnings, safety, education, and health, the figures demonstrate irrefutable regressions in their lives that have been exacerbated by the worldwide crises. It will cost us all more if we wait any longer to stop this trend, “In a statement, she stated.
