Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a widespread global outage on Tuesday, leaving thousands of users unable to access the app or website. The outage was tracked in real time by Downdetector.com, which aggregates user-reported issues worldwide.
According to the outage monitoring service, more than 22,900 users in the United States, 7,000 in the United Kingdom, 2,700 in Canada, and over 2,000 in India reported problems accessing the platform by mid-morning, indicating a major platform disruption.
Users reported a range of issues, including failure to load timelines, trouble posting content, and errors when trying to log in. Complaints flooded social media channels with screenshots showing error messages and unsuccessful attempts to refresh content.
While X’s servers were inaccessible for many users, there was no immediate official statement from the company regarding the cause or expected time of restoration at the time of reporting.
The outage impacted not just mobile apps but also web access, suggesting possible technical glitches on multiple fronts. This incident follows previous disruptions the platform has faced over recent months, underlining ongoing operational challenges.
Users in India also joined the chorus of complaints, with reports coming in from several major cities where users were unable to refresh feeds or upload posts.
As the world increasingly relies on social media for communication, news updates, and business interactions, outages like these can have widespread ripple effects — from individual disruptions to potential impacts on advertising revenue and content engagement.
