Hyderabad: A 28-year-old Indian student from Hyderabad, Chandrashekar Pole, was shot dead by an unidentified gunman while working at a gas station in Dallas, Texas, on Friday night. His killing comes barely a month after another shocking incident in the city, where Indian-origin motel manager Chandra Mouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah was brutally beheaded.
Chandrashekar, who moved to the US in 2023 after completing his bachelor’s in dental surgery in India, had recently finished his master’s degree. While searching for a full-time placement, he was working part-time at the gas station.
The grieving family has appealed to the Indian government to help bring back his mortal remains. BRS leaders T Harish Rao and Sudhir Reddy visited the student’s home in Hyderabad on Saturday, extending support and urging authorities to act swiftly.
“The pain the parents are enduring is unimaginable. On behalf of BRS, we demand that the state government take immediate steps to bring Chandra Shekhar’s body back to his hometown,” Rao said in a social media post.
Last month, 50-year-old Nagamallaiah was hacked to death with a machete by his co-worker, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, following a dispute over a washing machine. Cobos-Martinez has since been arrested and charged with capital murder.
The back-to-back tragedies have left the Indian community in Dallas shaken, prompting renewed calls for safety measures for international students and workers.
