The World Health Organization (WHO) has rejected an application by the Serum Institute of India to extend the shelf life of the Covishild vaccine. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the information provided by the company is not enough. A few days ago, Serum applied for a six-month extension to Shelf Life.
The last day of use of a vaccine from the time of preparation is called shelf life. Commonly called the vaccine’s expiration date. Vaccines will no longer be used after this period. The WHO also took part in the meeting with the DCGI to discuss the issue.
In India, the DCGI has already extended Covisild’s shelf life by six to nine months. In a letter to the Serum Institute of India in Pune in February, the DCGI said there was no objection to extending the shelf life of the Covisild vaccine to nine months. This shelf-life vaccine will be applied to multi-dose glass CC (10 doses-5 ml).
“The vaccine’s self-life can be extended to six months,” said Dr BG Somani, Director General of Drugs Control, India. “The decision will reduce the number of vaccinations in the hospital,” he said.
