ICC announces expansion of global events

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made some big announcements about the World Cup. It has also released the World Cricket Schedule for 2023-31. Fourteen teams will take part in the 2027 and 2031 World Cups. In addition, cricket fans will once again see the Champions Trophy. The ICC has named the Champions Trophy in its program.

Twelve major men’s cricket tournaments will be held between 2023-31. It has two World Cups, four Twenty 20 World Cups, two Champions Trophies and four World Test Championships. In addition, eight major women’s tournaments will be held. The ICC will host a tournament every year amid protests from the BCCI, Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board. This includes under-19 tournaments.

14 teams will take part in the 2017 and 2031 World Cups. A total of 54 matches will be played. The World Cup will be held in the Super-6 format, as in 2003. The two groups will have 7-7 teams. Each team will play 6 matches. The top 3 teams in each group will enter the Super-6. And in the Super Six, each team will play five matches. Four teams will then advance to the semi-finals on a point-by-point basis.

Similarly, 20 teams will take part in the Men’s World Twenty 20 to be held in 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030. There will be 55 matches played in the tournament. The teams will be divided into four groups during the T20 World Cup. Each group will have 5 teams. The top 2 teams in each group will enter the Super-6. This will be followed by the semi-finals and the final.

The ICC Champions Trophy was canceled in 2017. It started on the 1998. Eight edition of the tournament were played. India and Australia won two titles. India and Sri Lanka were the joint winners in 2002. New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and the West Indies each won the title once. India were led by Sourav Ganguly and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India won the 2013 title.
