Dr VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog informed that the discussions are being held between the Indian government and COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers Moderna and Pfizer over several issues including indemnity waiver.
According to the reports, VK Paul stated that they are in touch with the government and holding discussions. They are trying to get a solution on contractual and commitments issues and the process is ongoing.
The report further added that tThe regional director of the World Health Organisation (WHO) South-East Asia, Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh informed the agency that Moderna has offered 7.5 million doses through Covax.
However, Pfizer has not even applied for an emergency use authorisation in India. Moderna and Pfizer had asked for indemnity to ensure that they can’t be held responsible for any adverse effects of the vaccine.
