A mob of about 1,000 individuals gathered to attempt to set fire to structures close to the palace grounds.Officials said on Saturday that two civilians were hurt during the overnight clashes between mobs and security personnel in Imphal town as well as efforts to set BJP leaders’ homes on fire.Throughout the night, automatic gunfire was heard coming from Kwakta in Manipur’s Bishnupur district and Kangvai in Churachandpur district in separate occurrences.
To scatter the gathering, the RAF used rubber bullets and tear gas.
Another mob attempted to set fire to MLA Biswajeet’s home. But the gathering was dispersed by an RAF column.After midnight, a second mob surrounded the BJP office in Sinjemai, but it was dispersed by an Army column, so it could not cause any damage.In a similar vein, a group of people attempted to vandalise Sharda Devi’s house in Imphal’s Porampet neighbourhood around midnight. The teenagers were successfully scattered by security officers.
