At a ceremony held at the Kalinga Stadium in the state capital on Monday, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik distributed land ownership certificates to 65,000 impoverished households residing in slums in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur, and Raurkela. Odisha is incidentally the only state in the nation to provide slum dwellers land rights.
Speaking to a crowd on this occasion, the chief minister said that the recipients will also get financial support for the building of homes. The certificate’s second part will be released in October of next year. According to the chief minister, this effort will continue until all of the disadvantaged households in these cities are granted land rights.
It is important to note that the 2018-launched Jaga Mission initiative gives land rights to low-income households residing in urban slums. More than 2,40,000 households have gained land rights thus far in the state’s several cities. 40,000 households have also received support for home construction. the of these slums are receiving the necessary amenities and are being transformed into Biju Model Colonies with the goal of making Odisha slum-free. 1010 communities in 68 urban regions have already been transformed into Biju Model Colony as of this writing.
