Many Indians on social media have claimed that they have cancelled their planned vacations to the island nation in the wake of a controversy surrounding a tweet made by a Maldivian minister a few days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Lakshadweep archipelago.
A tweet from a Maldivian minister that claimed India was targeting the country and that India would find it difficult to compete with the Maldives in beach tourism set off the controversy.
