Ex-Odisha CM Giridhar Gamang, Wife And Son Rejoin Congress

After leaving the Congress in 2015, former chief minister of Odisha Giridhar Gamang rejoined the organization on Wednesday, nearly eight years after his initial resignation. During a program in New Delhi, the 80-year-old tribal leader made his comeback to the Congress, accompanied by Ajoy Kumar, the party’s Odisha incharge. At the function, Gamang’s son Sishir Gamang, wife and former Congress MP Hema Gamang, and former Bargarh MP Sanjay Bhoi also joined the party again.

Just a few days after leaving the BJP, the seasoned leader of Telangana joined the BRS at the party’s headquarters last year in the presence of KC Rao, the president of the party. Gamang had severed his 43-year association with the Congress in 2015 and was a member of the saffron party. Since 1972, Gamang has been elected nine times from the Koraput constituency to the Lok Sabha. Over the course of his lengthy career, he held a number of positions under multiple Congress governments, including Union Minister of Communications, Food Processing Industries, Mines, etc.

Gamang was blamed for the NDA Government under Vajpayee’s leadership losing the motion of no confidence in April 1999 by a single vote. Even after becoming the Chief Minister of Odisha in February 1999, Gamang continued to participate in the motion as a member of the Congress in the Lok Sabha.
