Indian Oil Hands Over Hydrogen Fuel Bus To Navy For Test Run

As part of the government’s green push, Indian Oil has given the Indian Navy a cutting-edge green hydrogen fuel cell bus for trials and performance testing. An agreement was signed by Indian Oil and the Indian Navy to advance the use of hydrogen fuel cell technology for heavy-duty e-mobility at the ceremony, which took place at the national capital’s Nau Sena Bhavan. Senior authorities, including Indian Oil Chairman S.M. Vaidya and Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, were present at the function.

“We will be testing one of the hydrogen buses and looking forward to deploying environment-friendly transportation in larger numbers, and I must thank Indian Oil for choosing the Indian Navy as their partner,” the Navy chief said. The Indian Oil Chairman said: “As we continue to support our defence forces with innovative, forward-looking solutions that cater to tomorrow’s needs. Indian Oil has been leading the way in advancing Green hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.”

The research will evaluate how well fuel-cell electric buses function for public transportation in the harsh climate of the Delhi NCR area. It will also analyze how local fuel and air quality affect fuel-cell system and vehicle performance. According to a statement from Indian Oil, it would also assess the efficiency, robustness, and operational dependability of fuel cell buses meant for use by the general public fleet.

With 15 fuel cell buses already in operation by Indian Oil across Gujarat and Delhi-NCR, the fleet has traveled 300,000 km overall, with each bus projected to travel at least 20,000 km. With the help of Indian Oil, the country’s top energy provider, this project seeks to advance hydrogen and fuel cell technologies for heavy-duty e-mobility, establishing the Indian Navy as a leader in testing this field.
