Today, at the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters, a two-day workshop sponsored by UN-Habitat was conducted. Mayor Sulochana Das, BMC Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, Chairman of the Standing Committee Biranchi Narayan Mahasupkar, and UN-Habitat’s Inclusive City Planning Expert, Parul Sharma, were present at the inaugural event held on this occasion.
This workshop brought together forty senior officials from different departments to discuss the quality living system. UN-Habitat has chosen eleven cities from around the globe. UN-Habitat has designated only one city in South Asia as a pilot city: Bhubaneswar. Senior officials from a variety of departments and instructors from private schools shared their opinions at this workshop regarding ways to raise Bhubaneswar residents’ standard of living. The usefulness and efficacy of these will be examined tomorrow.
UN-Habitat prioritizes and concentrates on enhancing the quality of urban living. Participants in the program will include government officials, academics, intellectuals, workers from voluntary organizations, representatives of special interest groups, and businesspeople. The topics of discussion will include people-centric development, the creation and evaluation of life quality, and the strategies that will be employed to attain the objectives.
Eleven global cities have been chosen, but only one—Bhubaneswar—is in South Asia. As a pilot city, the survey assessing the city’s quality of life has already begun. The results of this survey will be highly beneficial in raising Bhubaneswar residents’ standard of living. The role that Bhubaneswar plays in providing basic amenities to its residents was determined, and several solutions were explored. The final draft will be prepared by UN-Habitat, which will incorporate data gathered from the 11 cities at various phases of quality of life.
