Odisha Govt Inks MoU With AYJNISHD To Promote Sign Language

To promote sign language throughout Odisha, Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) and the Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (AYJNISHD) have signed a historic agreement. The effort intends to train 4000 deaf students and 800 teachers in 55 special schools for the hearing impaired throughout Odisha, as well as to develop a cadre of 100 skilled sign language interpreters.

In the distinguished presence of Nityananda Gond, Minister, Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes Development, Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare, School and Mass Education, Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, the agreement ceremony was held at the NSAP conference hall of W&CD, Department office of the SSEPD Department.

This scarcity has posed substantial obstacles for individuals with hearing impairments, hindering their access to essential services, educational opportunities and equitable participation in societal activities. By addressing this gap, the projects aim to enhance communication, inclusivity and the overall well-being of the hearing-impaired community in the state”.

The comprehensive development of deaf students was also emphasized by Principal Secretary Bishnupada Sethi. He declared, “This agreement makes it easier for qualified interpreters to get employment across a range of industries. In order to match qualified interpreters with employment prospects, the project will locate possible employers and plan networking events.
