IMD Warns of Heavy Rain Across Odisha, Issues Yellow Alert for 15 Districts

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha is set to experience heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers on Tuesday, as a fresh low-pressure area forms over the Bay of Bengal. The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow alert for 15 districts, warning of significant rainfall and advising caution.

The IMD has forecast rainfall ranging between 70 mm and 110 mm in the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Jajpur. The wet weather is expected to persist until at least September 27.

In addition to the heavy rain, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are predicted for isolated locations in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Khurda, and Puri districts. The IMD has urged people to stay indoors during periods of rain to avoid potential risks from lightning strikes.

While the flood situation in Balasore district has shown signs of improvement, with water levels in the Subarnarekha River receding, several areas remain submerged. Villages in Kuchirgadi Panchayat, Kushuda, Gabgaon, and Manunagar are still grappling with floodwater. Additionally, parts of Rasalpul in Bhograi block remain cut off, leaving residents isolated from the rest of the district.
