BHUBANESWAR: Durga Puja revellers in Odisha can rejoice as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that this year’s festivities are likely to go uninterrupted by rain. According to the latest weather outlook, the skies are expected to remain clear throughout the week, ensuring pleasant conditions for the celebrations.
In its fortnightly forecast, the IMD has projected below-normal rainfall activity during the Durga Puja period. While the possibility of heavy rainfall remains minimal across the state, some isolated regions may experience light to moderate showers between October 4 and October 10. Additionally, light to moderate rainfall could affect a few areas from October 11 to 17, though no widespread disruption is anticipated.
The IMD has also indicated that a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal, close to the Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coasts, between October 11 and 17. However, this development is not expected to cause significant rainfall across the region, allowing Puja festivities to continue as planned.
Meanwhile, parts of the state experienced heavy rainfall over the weekend. Areas stretching from Aska in Ganjam to Cuttack saw significant downpours on Sunday, with forecasts indicating more rainfall at select locations on Monday. Despite these intermittent showers, the weather conditions for Durga Puja remain favourable overall.
