Arvind Kejriwal is set to meet Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, state ministers, and AAP MLAs in Delhi on Tuesday to address internal discord and strategize following the party’s major setback in the Delhi assembly elections. The meeting comes amid growing speculation of dissent within the party’s Punjab unit, especially after the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) disappointing performance in Delhi. While some MLAs have expressed dissatisfaction with the party leadership, AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang has downplayed the situation, calling the gathering a “routine strategy session.” The discussions will primarily focus on analyzing the Delhi election results and preparing for the upcoming Punjab assembly polls in 2027.
The February 8 defeat in Delhi saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ending AAP’s decade-long rule, securing 48 of the 70 seats in the assembly, while Kejriwal’s party managed only 22 seats. The loss has raised questions within the Punjab unit, with some MLAs reportedly unhappy with the party’s direction. Despite AAP’s landslide victory in Punjab in the 2022 assembly elections, where they won 92 of 117 seats, recent developments have triggered concerns over internal rifts and the influence of Delhi’s leadership on Punjab’s governance.
