During the next four to five days, temperatures in Odisha are expected to gradually increase by three to five degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). District collectors have received an advise from the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) in response. As temperatures have already risen to 37°C and higher today, the districts of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, and Balangir are among those at risk.
The temperatures in these districts are likely to increase further to around 40°C or higher in some areas over the next five days. District Collectors have been instructed to spread the warning to the public. The SRC’s advisory mentions that while the heat is manageable for most people, it can pose health risks to vulnerable groups, including infants, the elderly, and sick persons. The public is advised to take necessary precautions, especially when outdoors during the afternoon. The SRC has also urged all District Collectors to closely monitor the situation and take appropriate action.
