Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke with US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth on Thursday, according to a report by PTI.

In an official statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Singh’s office said, “The US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth spoke to Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh earlier today and expressed his deepest sympathies for the tragic loss of innocent civilians in the dastardly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir.”

Hegseth reiterated the United States’ strong support for India’s right to defend itself and affirmed Washington’s solidarity with New Delhi in its fight against terrorism.

During the conversation, Rajnath Singh told his American counterpart that Pakistan had been “exposed” as a “rogue” state that is actively fueling global terrorism and destabilising the region. Singh emphasized that the international community could no longer afford to turn a “blind eye” to terrorism.

Further details of the phone call are expected to be officially released shortly.
