The Festivals of Togetherness!

By Abhishek Haridasan

Smiles all around, embraces that are tighter than usual and love that overflows! Welcome to the umpteen number of festivals in our country, culture, and heritage that unite us in spirit and double the bonhomie.

Festivals Mean the World: Any Indian or those of Indian origin believe that festivals that cut across religious beliefs are a sign of teamwork, strong character and bonding. While India celebrates close to 150+ festivals each year, we seem to be adding more, considering the secular mindsets across people. One never understands when the fun starts or stops, or if there is a pause anywhere in between.

Festivals Can Be Perceptive: One section of people can celebrate a particular festival as compared to the other, and we can coexist peacefully. While there were times in our country when clashes on festival celebrations would lead to violent displeasure, each one of us has outgrown the hate and vitriol, and understood that our unity lies in the differences we possess and lend a helping hand in bringing grandeur into each festival.

The People Make it Beautiful: From exquisite pandals, to the adorning of blessed idols with ornaments of exuberance, and signing divine songs in the praise of saints, seers and positive spirits, festivals in our country are for the people, of the people and by the people. If our civilisation has stood the test of time, it’s because of how people put aside any negativity, shake hands, and move themselves into various dance forms to experience human-generated bliss. A special note to the sweets, savouries and milk drinks that leave us wanting a lot more!

Festivals in India are a vehicle for united success, progress, and provide humanity the hope of living peacefully and thriving in absoluteness.

Celebrate festivals in their truest form, with pomp, splendour, and vibrant colours. Respect the beliefs of everyone and admire how generations feed forward the wisdom of divine and meaningful congregations.
