71st National Film Awards: Shah Rukh Khan Bags First Best Actor Honour, Rani Mukerji Named Best Actress

The prestigious 71st National Film Awards were announced on Friday evening, celebrating excellence in Indian cinema across languages and categories. Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji won Best Actor and Best Actress respectively for Jawan and Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, while Vikrant Massey was also honoured for his role in 12th Fail.

Regional cinema had a powerful presence, with films like HanuMan (Telugu), Parking (Tamil), and Shyamchi Aai (Marathi) earning top accolades. Sudipto Sen bagged Best Director for The Kerala Story, which also won Best Cinematography.

The awards recognised outstanding work in various technical categories, including choreography, sound design, screenplay, and makeup, showcasing the talent and diversity of Indian filmmaking.

  • Best Screenplay: Sai Rajesh (Baby), Ramkumar Balakrishnan (Parking)

  • Best AVGC Film: HanuMan

  • Best Children’s Film: Naal 2

With performances and storytelling from every corner of the country being recognised, the 2023 National Film Awards served as a true celebration of India’s cinematic brilliance.
