Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Sunday that the firm concerned has already submitted the necessary monies and that land acquisition for a projected giant steel mill in Keonjhar district would soon begin. Over Rs 40,000 crore would be invested in the project, which is a joint venture between the JSW Group and POSCO, a major steel company in South Korea. An initial capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) is anticipated for the facility.
“The process is in an advanced stage. Land has been identified and funds have been deposited. Preparations are underway,” Majhi said, following a review of development projects in the district.
Two locations have been selected for land acquisition: Patna and Tamakant. According to the Chief Minister, the new facility would create jobs and greatly strengthen the local economy, especially for young people in the district. Majhi reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to industrialization and infrastructural development in mineral-rich Keonjhar, referring to the initiative as a personal mission.
The CM engaged with local MLAs during his visit, convened a district-level review meeting, and urged their collaboration in furthering development efforts. Additionally, he announced the launch of three new ambulances and a coconut gathering truck as part of the renowned Ghatagaon shrine’s “Maa Tarini” campaign. Majhi also promised that there will be enough of money available for Keonjhar’s development, particularly for the extension of the national highway and other important projects.
