Odisha Governor Urges OUAT To Lead Agri-Entrepreneurship Drive

On Sunday, Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati called on the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) to be the driving force behind encouraging agricultural entrepreneurship among farmers, students, and the general public. The Governor emphasized the need of creating thorough project profiles that include cost estimates, land and power requirements, revenue predictions, and potential subsidy schemes while speaking as the special guest at the 64th OUAT Foundation Day celebration.

“Such profiles will help farmers and students assess the financial viability of agricultural ventures and encourage entrepreneurship,” he said.

Dr. Kambhampati recognized the need of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (Agricultural Science Centers) in educating farmers throughout the state. Noting that some trainees have already started industrial operations, he emphasized that involvement in agri-based businesses might be greatly increased with competent mentoring and a wider distribution of project profiles. The Governor congratulated the institution on its founding day and said that agriculture is the cornerstone of the Indian economy and a component of the nation’s culture. According to him, organizations like OUAT are essential for producing skilled labor and addressing issues like market instability and climate change.

Highlighting key growth areas, he called for focus on processing, value addition, marketing, exports, and adoption of advanced technologies like precision agriculture, biotechnology, AI, and sustainable resource management. The Governor lauded OUAT’s recognition as a leading nodal center by the MSME Department for agricultural startups, having mentored 24 ventures. He said this aligns with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and positions OUAT to empower youth, promote rural enterprises, and enhance Odisha’s global agricultural footprint.

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who holds the Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment portfolio, also addressed the gathering. He underscored the importance of organic farming and highlighted India’s transformation from a food-importing to a food-exporting nation.

Fisheries & Animal Resources Development and MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallick spoke about government initiatives aimed at supporting farmers and strengthening the agricultural ecosystem.
