The body of 22-year-old Ajit Singh Chaudhary, an Indian medical student from Alwar, Rajasthan, has been recovered from a dam near the White River in Russia, nearly three weeks after he went missing.
Chaudhary, who had been pursuing an MBBS degree at Bashkir State Medical University since 2023, was last seen on October 19 when he left his hostel in Ufa around 11 a.m. to buy milk but never returned. According to reports, his jacket, shoes, and mobile phone were later found on a riverbank.
The All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) has written to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, urging assistance in repatriating Chaudhary’s body to India.
Family members said they were first contacted by Russian police on October 20, but information about his whereabouts remained unclear. Chaudhary’s uncle, Bhoom Singh, told The New Indian Express that the family faced difficulties getting responses from college authorities and hostel staff.
Locals and relatives had earlier sought help from Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav and the Alwar District Collector to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs for locating the student.
