“From Urban Thrills to Psychological Depths: A Conversation with Jay Word, the Voice Behind Today’s Sharpest Fiction”

Jay Word, one of today’s most dynamic emerging authors, has carved a unique space in contemporary fiction with her gripping urban thrillers, emotionally charged poetry, and psychologically layered domestic suspense novels. Since her debut novel in February 2024, she has released a compelling mix of novellas, YA thrillers, and your latest novel, a powerful domestic thriller which earned over 2,000 page reads in its first week alone.

With Book 3 of her poetry series releasing this November and the final instalment arriving next year, her momentum is unstoppable. She’s also working on the second draft of a book that is very different to her current fiction catalogue. Beyond writing, Word is an avid traveller preparing for an exciting trip to Egypt this month. Her books are available worldwide through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Waterstones, and her official website: www.jaywordauthor.com.

Here is a structured interview format with space for her responses:

  1. Your debut novel released in February 2024. How did that moment shape you as an author?
    Answer:

It was a dive into an unfamiliar ocean, and I was filled with anxiety, and uncertainty, but it was actually writing the book that really changed my life. Finally completing a manuscript, and enjoying every second of doing so, was the catalyst for everything that has followed.

  1. You’ve written across multiple formats—novella, poetry, YA thriller, psychological domestic thriller. What inspires you to explore such varied genres?
    Answer:

My fiction so far has all been within the thriller genre, but I aim to entice different types of readers, and that includes the younger ones, and those who prefer shorter reads.

Poetry came before fiction for me – I’ve written poetry since I was at school. It’s now become part of my healing journey, and the best way to save them is to publish them. The messages I get from readers who can relate to pain on the pages, motivates me to keep sharing my penned emotions.

  1. Your most recent domestic thriller achieved over 2,000 page reads in the first week. What do you think resonated most with readers?
    Answer:

The book is about domestic abuse, a subject that affects one in three women across the world. I think it’s probably one of the few subjects that every woman can relate to. If you haven’t experienced it yourself, you more than likely know someone who has.

  1. The poetic journal series, Vitamin P is gaining a strong following. What can readers expect from Book 3 releasing this November?
    Answer:

The series features the daily poems I have written this year. Like the seasons, the overall mood of each book has been different. Book 1 was full of hope at the beginning of the year, book 2 was a lot more sombre, and book 3 is filled with light again. Even among the devastating news that was revealed to me at the time of writing.

  1. And with Book 4 set to release next year, how are you approaching the final chapter of the series?
    Answer:

I never know what my poetry will reveal, but as daily journal entries, there’s always a wide variety of subjects, emotions and I have been exploring different forms of poetry, so books 3 and 4 have a range of poetic styles, too.

  1. You travel frequently, and you’re heading to Egypt this month. How does travel influence your storytelling?
    Answer:

So far, my stories haven’t ventured out of England much, and the destinations I’ve used, haven’t been countries that I’ve been to, but my dream is to travel and write, so I foresee many international settings for my stories in the future.

  1. Your books are available globally across major platforms. How does it feel to see your work reaching readers around the world?
    Answer:

I think so far I’ve reached five continents, and around ten countries, and that makes me happy, but of course I’d like to reach even more readers across the globe. This is is just the beginning of my author journey, I’m excited for the future. I have a sequel to my debut which features Russian Oligarchs, but due to the war, I’ve put that story on hold. I really want to experiment with method writing, and visiting Russia as research for the story will be an opportunity for me to do that.
