A proposal by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) to develop an integrated ingot-wafer and solar cell manufacturing plant in the state with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore was approved by the Odisha Cabinet on Friday. Chief Secretary Anu Garg informed reporters during the Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi that the project will take place at the Tata Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Odisha.
According to the administration, the state’s first-ever upstream solar manufacturing plant will handle the whole value chain from ingot and wafer production to solar cell fabrication. With a total capacity of 10 GW for ingot-wafer and 5 GW for solar cell manufacture, the project will be constructed in two stages. More than 5,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, including high-skill positions, are anticipated.
