Naveen Patnaik, the president of the BJD and leader of the opposition, finished his digital self-enumeration for the 2027 Census on Sunday.
Taking to the social media platform X, Patnaik said, “I participated in the ‘Digital Census’ program launched across the country and completed the self-enumeration for Phase I of Census 2027 (Houselisting and Housing Census) today. Accurate data will help in preparing welfare plans for the people in the coming days. Let us cooperate in this campaign and be partners in shaping a bright future for the state. #Census2027”
On April 1, 2026, Census 2027’s first phase, which focuses on housing and houselisting, got underway. The government has implemented a digital self-enumeration system for the first time in Indian census history, enabling residents to provide household information online prior to enumerators visiting houses for confirmation.
Currently, eight states and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir are gradually opening the portal (https://se.census.gov.in). It includes the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Karnataka, Goa, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Sikkim, and portions of Delhi in addition to Odisha. Each region will have a 30-day house-to-house survey after the 15-day self-enumeration opportunity.
Residents actively contribute to reliable data on assets, household amenities, and housing conditions by filling out the self-enumeration. This data is essential for inclusive development initiatives, efficient planning, and evidence-based governance.
