The Telangana High Court on Friday granted Congress leader Pawan Khera anticipatory bail for a period of one week in connection with a case registered in Assam. The case stems from an FIR filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, over allegations regarding possession of multiple passports.
Justice K. Sujana, while delivering the order, stated that the petitioner has been given one week’s time to approach the appropriate court for relief. The interim protection is subject to certain conditions.
The FIR, registered at the Guwahati Crime Branch Police Station, invokes multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to false statements in connection with elections, cheating, forgery, use of forged documents, intentional insult, and defamation.
