Odisha Partners With JHPIEGO, Signs MoU With AIIMS To Improve Rural Healthcare

To improve healthcare services throughout the state, the Odisha government has teamed up with Johns Hopkins University’s Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics (JHPIEGO). The agreement focuses on important topics such emergency preparation, nursing, nutrition, non-communicable illnesses, and maternal and child health. JHPIEGO will assist medical education, including digital learning initiatives, and offer technological expertise and policy recommendations.

Crucially, this partnership is built on capacity-building and knowledge-sharing rather than financial gain. The collaboration demonstrates a common commitment to creating accessible and sustainable healthcare systems in Odisha, according to Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling.

Furthermore, the state government and AIIMS-Bhubaneswar inked a supplementary memorandum of understanding (MoU) to increase access to sophisticated medical services in Rairangpur, Mayurbhanj district, and the adjacent districts. In front of Health Secretary Aswathy S. and other high-ranking officials, Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, and Pradeep Guru, Director of Health Services, Odisha, signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

“Under this agreement, a new 100-bed facility will be constructed at the Rairangpur sub-divisional hospital. AIIMS-Bhubaneswar will also provide specialist outpatient services, organise regular medical camps for dental, eye, and infectious disease care, and introduce teleconsultation facilities every one to two months,” the minister shared on social media.

He added that an emergency patient transfer system to AIIMS Bhubaneswar will further strengthen healthcare access in remote regions.
