Elderly and sick witnesses who are unable to travel to court can now record their testimony from home, which is a significant step toward bringing justice to the doorstep. For this reason, the Orissa High Court introduced two mobile e-seva vans. In front of justices and high-ranking officials, Chief Justice Harish Tandon flagged off the vans on the high court grounds.
To guaranty continuous evidence recording, the vans are outfitted with high-speed multi-network connectivity, high-definition video conferencing capabilities, and power backup systems. On the first day, the service was used. The van was used to capture the testimony of a crucial witness in a long-pending case. The witness was a resident of Adhalia in Cuttack Sadar and was unable to appear in court because of illness.
The vehicles will be used all year long to offer legal aid, hold awareness campaigns, help with digital filing and court fee payments, and give judicial services to rural and isolated communities, according to high court officials. The Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) held a public awareness program in Jagatpur’s Paga Weekly Market after the launch.
