The central government has begun preparations to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel. It is learned that the Ministry of Finance is considering the matter. According to a Reuters news agency report, some senior finance ministry officials said the central government was preparing to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel.
Petrol and diesel prices in the country have now reached record levels. Opposition groups called for a boycott of the assembly. Clashes are also being observed in various parts of the country. There are also calls for the central government and state governments to immediately reduce excise duties.
Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikant Das has also advised the central government to reduce tariffs. Both petrol and diesel prices remain higher, which means higher production costs than crude oil to produce petrol and diesel. About 70 percent of the price of petrol and diesel goes in the form of taxes. The price of petrol is Rs 39 per liter, while the price in the country is above Rs 40 for manufacturing.
So the central government plans to reduce excise duty to reduce petrol and diesel prices. There have been reports that plans are being drawn up with more pressure at the government level and the problems of both consumers. A few days ago, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also said that both the central and state governments need to take steps to reduce petrol and diesel prices.
