Congress holds protests across Odisha on November 12 from 6 am to 12 noon in demand over the resignation of Minister of State for Home, Dibya Shankar Mishra over his alleged links with Govind Sahu, prime accused in the sensational Mamita Meher murder case.
According to the reports, the Odisha Congress unit had given a call for a complete bandh across the state, but the Orissa high court ruled that only a hartal can be held and not a general strike. As per the reports, a Cuttack-based businessman submitted a petition against the bandh call and a division bench headed by Chief Justice S Muralidhar stated that no political party is entitled to paralyse normal life in the name of the bandh.
The Orissa HC bench ruled that that rail and road traffic cannot be blocked and also business establishments can’t be forced to down their shutters during the hartal by Congress. The Congress assured the court that the protest would be peaceful, following which the HC bench court directed the director-general of police to take action against protestors who forcibly try to disrupt normal life.
