Wearing seat belts even on rear seats made mandatory.

Rear seat occupants who are not wearing seat belts will face penalties, according to Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road, Transport & Highways. In the upcoming three days, a notification in this regard will be made public. In addition, rear seat seat belt reminder systems will be added to cars and SUVs. The requirement that rear seat passengers wear seat belts means that going forward, all passengers in cars and SUVs must do the same, or else a fine will be assessed.

Gadkari added that people between the ages of 18 and 34 make up the majority of those killed in traffic accidents in India. Gadkari claimed that the only area in which he had failed in the previous eight years was reducing traffic accidents. “Road safety is the only field where I tried my best but could not succeed,” he lamented, expressing concern that there is still a mentality issue and a lack of motivation to follow traffic laws. Police report that Mistry wasn’t using a seat belt at the time of the collision on Sunday, despite being in the back seat of the unfortunate Mercedes SUV.

Gadkari said seat belts would be required for all classes of vehicles, just as airbags would be installed for every passenger, despite the fact that he did not specify the amount of the fine for defaulters.Recently, Cyrus Mistry, a well-known business figure and the former chairman of Tata Sons, passed away in a car accident involving a fast car that someone else was operating. According to the Maharashtra Police’s initial investigation, Mistry was travelling in the back seat of a Mercedes-Benz without a seat belt. He and his fellow passenger died in the collision, but both people in the front seats who were wearing seat belts survived with serious injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Due to this unfortunate incident, Indians are now discussing the safety of the passengers in the back and, more specifically, the significance of using the rear seat belt. India has the highest rate of traffic accidents in the entire world. Around 500,000 traffic accidents occurred in the nation in 2021, leaving 150,000 people dead.
