Bay of Bengal depression deepens and becomes severe

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday that the depression that was centred over the east-central Bay of Bengal has deepened.

“A Deep Depression developed over the east central Bay of Bengal around 580 km northwest of Port Blair. across the middle Bay of Bengal, to become stronger and become a cyclonic cyclone. To reach the Bangladeshi coast early on October 25th between Tinkona Island and Sandwip, according to an IMD tweet.

Many districts are on high alert due to the potential cyclone.Kendrapara, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur have been issued a yellow warning (be updated) for the twenty-four hours beginning at 8.30 am on October 23. Yellow alert (be updated) has been issued for six districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack for the next 24 hours beginning at 8.30 am on October 24.

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are expected to occur at a few locations over the districts of north coastal Odisha Mayurbhanj, at a single or two locations over the districts of south coastal Odisha, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar, and at no locations over the remaining districts of Odisha in the ensuing 24 hours beginning at 8.30 am on October 25.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas along and off the Odisha coast as well as West-central and North Bay of Bengal from October 23 to 25 due to the rough sea conditions.
