In Conversation with Author Suchitra Satapathy

Suchitra is a person who wants to live her life with the aesthetics of happiness and doing more. As an artist & an engineer, she is developing various activities such as writing, painting, and editing has been her top-notch. Let us know more about her in this interview.

Q1) Since when did you start writing? What was your first writing experience like?

Ans : Fifteen years down the lane, when I was a kid with a little mind, I wrote poems on objects and whatever I visualized. They were like Mother, Father, Rain, Nature, Animals, Games, Cartoons, etc. I still have them on my old laptop. I used to write in diaries and notebooks initially, but slowly, when I was almost ten years old, I started typing my poems and a few fictional stories on my dad’s laptop. I love being original and creative. Well, I got it from my mother, I guess? HAHAHA. She is a writer as well, so genetics? I don’t know!

Talking about my first writing experience, it was fun and thoughtful. I enjoyed rhyming words, discovering sequences, and putting my ideas into words.

Q2) What is your favorite genre when it comes to writing? Mention some of your favorite books.

Ans : My favorite genre of poetry writing is the “abstract” type. Well, I love exhaling the tremendous and numerous thoughts that evolve in my mind. I have a lot of things to say, but I shy out anyhow. I might be bad at verbally exclaiming my thoughts to people, so I write up. My poetries are basically based on themes such as mind, mental health, self-love, self-growth, empowerment, vulnerability, love, etc.

There are a lot of books that I have read. If asked about a memorable one, I might go for “The Sun and Her Flowers” by Rupi Kaur. The aesthetic tint of the mind and the usage of words in her poems are beautiful.

Q3) What would the topic be if you ever planned on writing a solo book?

Ans : I am already on the verge of completing my first solo book. However, I have been part of many anthologies. But as an individual author, I am working on my unreleased book, “exhibition of thoughts.” [HAHA, I just disclosed the book name.]

The book comprises my vulnerable mind’s feelings along with the strong thoughts pushing me to be on my powerful side.

“Mind games in the battlefield of our heart are sensitive but reactive; we need to take care of it.” – Suchitra [ME]

With a theme of growing and rebelling against negativities, my upcoming book will showcase some of my experiences and lessons. I hope my readers will reach their confidence and become better people.

Q4) Nowadays, the youth spend a lot of time on social media. It often causes social media addiction. What are your views on this topic?

Ans : I do not really blame today’s youth. Changes are unavoidable. With time passing, millions of things are happening in the world. We do not have the power to control everything. Talking about social media, researchers have claimed that the use of social media drastically increased from 2019 to 2022. We know the reason i.e., Covid-19.

The main thing that plays an important role here is – mind control. That’s how a person can get out of a certain addiction. Social media influences people in a lot of manners, both in good and bad ways. If you reach the controlling point of your activities, social media will be a platform to share your thoughts and memories. Else, it shall be a dark place where you see people as your competitors and engage yourselves in the opposing side.

Q5) How do you think writing helps a person? Does writing help to vent out emotions and thus can help people?

Ans : DEFINITELY.

This question itself answers my reason for becoming a writer. I vent out my jumbled and tangled thoughts through words. It brings me peace. I poetically explain my thought process and exclaim the vivid scenarios that expand inside my mind.

‘Pen is mightier than a sword.’ – Words heal more than any physical equipment. A person’s good words can calm someone’s issues. Many stories and poetries have helped people escape the dark phases of their lives.

What are songs? Tunes to words? Right? Songs with meaningful lyrics also help people to get better. I say that from my own experience as well. The power of words is peerless. That’s precisely why writing is so powerful.
